ADT Alarm Systems, the Boca Raton-based home security company, have just released a new feature for their security cameras. ADT Pulse security and automation platform users can now opt to integrate a Nest Learning Thermostat together with their connected-home/security systems.
This move shows that ADT is slowly trying to open up its Pulse platform products to third-party devices and services to improve their capabilities of fighting back rivals in the form of do-it-yourself security system alternatives.
ADT is also soon to release an IFTTT (If This Then That) channel and their new DIY security camera in collaboration from LG that also serves as a smart-home hub. They are scheduled to be released sometime this year.
Together with the new release, ADT has also updated the companion application of their Pulse products. The most notable feature of the new Pulse app update is the ability to control a Nest thermostat. The other additional features include a voice control for the security system as well as a dashboard that displays real-time activity and tracking. ADT has also improved the app interface to better reflect the new and improved features and needs of its clients for both home and businesses.
In the cities of Atlanta, Chicago, Denver, and Miami, ADT will be giving out free Nest thermostats depending on the Pulse plans that new customers would subscribe for. The Nest thermostat is in partnership with SolarCity, a solar panel installer company, and American Family Insurance.
ADT’s Chief Executive Officer Naren Gurshaney said in an interview with Forbes that Nest Labs stands to gain from the partnership with ADT due to the seven million customers and clients that the security giant has. On top of that, they also have 4,000 sales representatives and numerous partnerships with fire departments and other emergency services that can help in the immediate dispatch of help in case of emergency purposes.
Pulse is a professionally installed and monitored solution that requires customers to commit to a minimum three-year service contract. There are three tiers in all, each offering a different combination of features, including alarm, 24/7 monitoring, remote access, automation, and video surveillance. Installation prices start at $199 and monthly monitoring fees at $50.
